Nikolozi recently released version 6.2 of Mela, making significant changes to this audio plugin for iOS and macOS devices. The app runs directly on macOS instead of through MacCatalyst, which greatly improves stability when used with other audio software. This update brings three brand new modules that replace the previous Sublane feature. The Layer module helps you build audio layers with its sublane feature. It takes non-audio signals as input and combines its input with the sublane's output. All signal types except audio pass through without changes. The sublane can change MIDI and Pitch signals but doesn't merge them at output. You can create synth layers with independent processors like filters and pitch shifts. A Volume control adjusts how loud the sublane output is before mixing. The Effect module creates self-contained custom audio effects through its Wet Path sublane. It receives copies of input signals and mixes the module's input with the sublane output. Similar to Layer, it can transform MIDI and Pitch signals without merging them. Dry controls the level of the module's input, and Wet adjusts the sublane output level before they mix. Both Layer and Effect belong to Mela Lab's Collection 4. The Group module lets you organize multiple modules with its sublane. You can move all submodules together or bypass them as a single unit. Input signals go to the sublane, and the sublane output becomes the module output. You can nest Group modules inside each other for complex arrangements. Like the other new modules, the Group is part of Collection 4 in Mela Lab. The update includes many improvements to existing features. Glide handles non-Poly signals correctly, working properly after Note-to-Pitch modules. Oscillators no longer animate Level parameter changes except when switching between positive and negative values, making it easier to see how other settings affect waveform shapes. The DS Oscillator matches the VPS Oscillator layout and handles zero-pitch signals better. The Preset Browser on macOS and iPad lets you right-click presets to show context menus instead of holding them down. When saving or loading plug-in states, the name field sets or retrieves preset names. This ensures the name in Mela matches what appears in host applications like Logic Pro that store presets outside Mela's files. Factory presets received updates, including feedback added to All Pass Phaser and a demonstration of pitch riser effects in Glide Riser. The interface lost redundant close buttons from popovers since you can tap or click outside to dismiss them. The About view became a popover that follows your zoom setting. Several bugs received fixes, including MIDI messages delayed by twice the tempo-sync value and problems with preset browser context menus during searches. The update fixed voice alignment issues in MIDI-to-Poly for identical MIDI inputs. Other fixes addressed modulation problems with modules inserted after Poly-to-Audio signal collapse and corrected the duplicate Note Chance entry in the module insert menu. To enjoy all these improvements, you can download this update directly from the App Store.
