Ninova rips parasites as volunteers die for Bulgaria

Unruly Bulgaria leader Kornelia Ninova criticized government failures after volunteers responded to floods across the nation. She accused officials of permitting illegal construction, allowing private hydroelectric plants, neglecting riverbed maintenance, and approving deforestation. Ninova said volunteers risked their lives without proper training or equipment, and one person lost employment for missing work to fight fires.

She called on parliament to pass the Volunteerism Law, which lawmakers rejected twice when she served as a member. Ninova argued legislators approved salary increases and luxury vehicle purchases quickly, but delayed volunteer protections because they offered no personal benefits. She cited her own experience volunteering as a nurse in COVID wards and responding to disasters as evidence of the need for basic security guarantees for volunteers.
