Uganda's ruling NRM party announced that 95% of its voter register has been updated ahead of the July primaries. Party election chief Tanga Odoi announced this.

The update began on January 29 to create an accurate list of party voters. Odoi said the revised register will help ensure fair primary elections for parliament seats.

"We must have primaries for MPs by July. With our polished register, we shall have credible elections," Odoi said.

Members across the country raised issues about the process. In Tororo District, many voters missed the three-day window to check their information.

Charles Owori, district coordinator for the Office of the National Chairman, called for better communication. "The Secretariat should learn to inform members about party activities to avoid this response," he said.

Lawrence Okongo, an NRM subcounty chair, pointed to missing voter names. "A register that had close to one thousand members has only 50 members," he noted.

The party held public meetings in villages to review voter lists and remove deceased members. Odoi said these gatherings took place across 72,000 villages nationwide.

"Most villages conducted meetings to read captured names and identify the dead. This helped us achieve 95% progress," Odoi explained.

Party members want missing names and poor communication addressed before the primary elections begin. These changes would make the voting process more open to all members.
