Major John Kazoora died April 21 at age 67 after falling out with President Museveni over term limits. He served as one of the NRA's bush war heroes before their friendship ended in 2005. Parliament had voted to remove presidential term limits against his wishes.

Kazoora wrote about the betrayal in his book. He claimed Museveni lied in his 2001 campaign when promising a final term. Some NRM leaders gave lawmakers money before the vote, which many saw as bribes. Kazoora joined 53 others opposing the change, but 220 MPs supported lifting term limits.

The president attacked Kazoora publicly at various events, calling him a puppy, a traitor, a masquerader, a saboteur, a wolf in sheep's clothing. Museveni tried forcing him from parliament through secret meetings with local leaders. Kazoora surprised everyone when he appeared at one such gathering at Rwakitura.

He left immediately after Museveni insulted him again. He traveled to South Africa to meet opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye. Kazoora retired from the army in January 2005 after 23 years of service.

He represented Kashaari as MP from 1996 until 2006. His earlier roles included Special District Administrator for Kabale, Political Commissar, and Director in the President's Office. He was born to Enock and Manjeri Kazoora from Rutooma, Kashaari, Mbarara district in 1958.
