NUP Lawyer Vanishes in Armed Drone Raid

NUP lawyer Abed Nasser Mudyobole vanished Friday after armed men took him from the Gold Rock Hotel in Kyaliwajjala. He wanted to run for Parliament in Iganga Municipality. Uganda Law Society asked police about him, but received no answers. The society's vice president, Anthony Asiimwe, reported that people with guns came at 5 pm. Family members said these people drove a drone vehicle when they grabbed Mudyobole during his client meeting.

This case adds to many similar events where security forces target opposition members across Uganda. Political workers face danger just for their party membership. People released after such captures tell stories about being hurt badly. Some NUP supporters never came back after security forces took them. The party claims these missing people died from torture.

Human rights lawyer Eron Kiiza believes Mudyobole disappeared because he joined NUP. Mudyobole previously supported the FDC party before switching. The law society warned all lawyers to stay alert for their safety and asked attorneys to tell family members about travel plans. Uganda Law Society continues searching for Mudyobole through its office team.
