Top Police Chief Tests Own Officers, Finds Poor Service. The new Coast police leader faced problems when he played the part of a crime victim at a police station. Ali Nuno went to Kisauni station to see how officers treat people who need help. Nuno made his secret test on February 3. He walked in with other police leaders at night. He acted like someone who had things taken from him. The area sees many street crimes, and Nuno wanted to check if the police do their work well. The desk officer at Kisauni station would not help Nuno. The officer watched the news on his phone instead. He told Nuno the area was unsafe and blamed him for having laptops and money with him. "Police must listen when people tell them about crimes," Nuno said after the test. "Each report helps us make better plans." The station leaders did nothing when Nuno asked for more help. The officers told him to come back another day. They changed their actions fast when Nuno said who he was. But he had seen enough. He spoke hard words to them and left. His test at Nyali police station went better. Four officers worked there that night. The desk officer helped him with care and wrote his report at 10:16 p.m. "I met good workers at Nyali. They did their jobs well," Nuno said. He praised how they helped people who came to the station. Nuno took these steps to see what service people receive at different stations. He has also put more secret officers in stations to observe police work. Many people in Kenya face the same problems Nuno saw. Some police treat them badly, while others give good help. Police chief Douglas Kanja wants to change how officers act at work. He runs training to improve service. The test shows big differences between police stations. It helps leaders identify where they must fix problems and improve police work for everyone.
