Bright Oduro, retired Police Commissioner and former head of the Criminal Investigations Department attacked Dr. George Akuffo Dampare's handling of the Ghana Police Service. During his Channel One TV appearance on The Big Issue, Oduro expressed major concerns about what happened when Dampare served as Inspector General. He mentioned that earlier, police chiefs ran everything smoothly without facing much criticism. Oduro claimed everything changed after Dampare became the top cop. Most officers disliked his leadership approach right away. The retired commissioner said several people tried giving Dampare helpful advice about better ways to lead the force. Dampare ignored these suggestions, creating growing problems across the entire police organization. "Previous IGPs did their jobs excellently with almost zero complaints. We rarely heard any issues raised by active or retired officers until Dampare took charge," Oduro stated during the interview. "He began his work promisingly but then headed in a direction that officers hated. Many people attempted to offer him guidance, but he rejected all input, raising numerous questions about his time as leader." Officials replaced Dampare with Commissioner Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new police chief. Most people believe this leadership change directly addresses the problems that surfaced during Dampare's term. The government hopes this switch will rebuild trust among police officers who felt ignored under the previous leadership.
