Vipers Sports Club became Uganda Premier League champions after a 1-1 draw with Soltilo Bright Stars at St. Mary's Stadium. Hima Cement sponsors the winning team and celebrated their success on the final day of competition. The club had already secured the title before this last match after winning their previous game. John Kokas Alou scored first for Bright Stars at the 62-minute mark with a calm finish over goalkeeper Jack Komakech. Nelson Senkatuka provided the pass that set up the goal. Allan Okello answered back six minutes later from the penalty spot after Andrew Kyambadde touched the ball with his hand inside the penalty area. Television replays showed the ball might have hit Kyambadde's face instead of his hand. Okello finished the season with 19 goals and won the Golden Boot award as the league's top scorer. Eight of his goals came from penalty kicks during the campaign. The equalizer helped Vipers maintain their championship position. Joan Kitawona from Hima Cement praised the partnership between her company and Vipers Sports Club. She said both organizations share the same dream of reaching the top of their respective fields. Kitawona explained that Vipers gives Hima Cement good exposure through football and sports marketing. The sponsorship deal will continue because both sides benefit from working together. Bright Stars dropped to the second division after 12 years playing at the highest level. Vipers will face KCCA FC next Saturday in the Uganda Cup final. The team wants to win both major trophies this season. Other final-day results showed NEC FC beating URA FC 1-0, Maroons defeating Mbarara City 2-0, Kitara crushing Mbale Heroes 6-1, and KCCA beating Express 3-0. Police won 2-0 against Wakiso Giants, and BUL FC beat UPDF FC 3-2.
