[QUOTE="Nehanda, post: 28143, member: 2262"] Lewis Rubongoya from the National Unity Platform party suffered injuries this past Wednesday during a heated confrontation. At the same time, Steven Kibwiika ended up in the hospital after people beat him badly. Kibwiika works as a cameraman for Spark TV, which belongs to Nation Media Group. The ugly scene played out in Kawempe, located inside Uganda's capital city of Kampala. Joel Ssenyonyi, who serves as Opposition Leader in Parliament, had brought Rubongoya and news reporters to check out a house. They believed certain folks inside were marking ballots ahead of time before tomorrow's big Kawempe North special election. When they searched the place, they found zero evidence of anyone marking ballots early. Still, Ssenyonyi noticed something fishy during their visit. He spotted several cars with missing license plates and started asking questions about it. He pressed the people inside about what exactly they were doing there. One person who lived at the home fired back that he could do whatever he wanted since it was his place. He demanded that everyone leave right away. The situation turned nasty when Ssenyonyi and his group refused to exit the property. Security guards rushed Ssenyonyi and Rubongoya outside as fighting broke out, but not before Rubongoya got hurt. The attackers severely beat Kibwiika as he filmed everything happening. NUP leaders later blasted these actions as government-supported bullying against anyone who opposes them or reports independently before important elections. Rubongoya explained they simply caught these people taking plates off vehicles, which made them angry enough to attack. Police and government officials have shared no comments about what happened.
