Mukelebai Herre Nasikambo became the latest victim when he drowned Saturday at a man-made dam near Oshakati. The 29-year-old man worked as a domestic helper at Onawa village with his girlfriend. He came from Katima Mulilo, located far away from where the accident happened. The couple went fishing together at Omatale Gakatumale dam that afternoon. Nasikambo entered the water, trying to grab a fish caught on an empty drink container.

The man called for help when he became tired and could not swim back to shore. His girlfriend ran to find other people who could rescue him from the deep water. Emergency workers arrived but could not save Nasikambo from drowning completely. Special Reserve Force divers later pulled his body from the dam water. Police Chief Sakaria warned residents to stay away from dangerous deep water areas.
