Pig Industry Board head Dr. Sharai Ncube thinks they can reach this goal despite missing last year's target. The board wants better infrastructure for breeding stock and actively seeks solutions for feed shortages that hurt pig farming.
Agriculture Deputy Minister Davis Marapira says farm buildings need better temperature control systems. He believes improved facilities can exceed production goals. The minister wants PIB to service 60 female pigs monthly for steady piglet supplies. He urged the board to increase its current slaughter capacity of 15-20 pigs daily. The government plans to help secure water sources located 4.3 kilometers away.
