Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov addressed the Youth GERB General Assembly today about Bulgaria's future. He said GERB wants better lives for all Bulgarians and needs active young citizens. The prime minister emphasized that strong unions protect the country's security. He called for more youth participation across different organizations. Bulgaria belongs to important international groups that help the nation grow. Bulgaria joined NATO and the European Union many years ago. The country recently marked 20 years since signing a major treaty back in 2005. Zhelyazkov called the EU the fairest union available to member countries. He believes Europe offers the best living conditions anywhere. The prime minister wants Bulgaria to continue moving toward these goals. Recent conflicts have changed how European nations think about protection. Countries must spend more money on defense because war returned to the continent. NATO leaders decided member states should spend 5 percent of their total economic output on defense matters. This spending target must be reached before 2035 arrives. About 3.5 percent goes to major defense projects and 1.5 percent supports science and infrastructure. Europe needs to protect itself from future threats. The prime minister wants to prevent other countries from facing what Ukraine experienced. He mentioned that Baltic states, Moldova and Romania could face similar dangers. Strong defense spending helps protect these vulnerable nations. Military strength prevents conflicts from spreading across the region. Zhelyazkov identified three main areas where the EU focuses its efforts. Security comes first, followed by smart investments and fair social changes. Environmental improvements matter but not at the expense of economic competition.
