Police Icons Go Jazz Crazy on Murder By Numbers

The Police song Murder By Numbers has changed many times over the years. Sting and Andy Summers first recorded it as a fast new wave track with drum machines. The band later turned it into a jazz and reggae style song that fans know today. Record companies put the final version on CD and cassette copies of Synchronicity but not vinyl releases. The track served as the B-side for their hit Every Breath You Take.

Christian McBride asked two Police members to join his new jazz version of the song. Sting and Andy Summers agreed to perform on the bassist's upcoming Big Band album. McBride creates jazz music and wanted to explore the spacious jazz elements already present in Murder By Numbers. His album Without Further Ado Vol 1 arrives during late summer with many guest singers. The project features artists like Samara Joy and Dianne Reeves alongside the Police reunion.

The Police stopped making music together after their 2008 reunion tour ended. Sting continues making solo albums and evolving his artistic style. Andy Summers still plays guitar with the same skill and energy from his Police days. McBride praised both musicians for bringing their talents to his jazz interpretation. Mack Avenue Records will release the album on August 29.
