Power play as Odinga battles Randriamandrato for AU seat

The African Union needs a new leader. They will choose this person at a big meeting in Ethiopia's capital city, Addis Ababa.

Three important people want the job. First is Raila Odinga, who used to be Kenya's Prime Minister. Second is Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar, who helped manage his country's money. Third is Mahmoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti, who works with other countries. These people know a lot about helping African countries work together.

The new leader will help make Africa better by following a plan called Vision 2063. This plan wants to make Africa rich and peaceful by the year 2063. It wants all African people to have good lives.

The voting rules are simple. Africa has 55 countries, but only 49 can vote because some countries broke important rules. The winner must have 33 countries voting for them. If nobody wins at first, they will vote again until someone does.

Different parts of Africa might vote for different people. Raila Odinga comes from East Africa, and eight countries there might support him. But it's tricky because some countries belong to more than one group. For example, Tanzania and DR Congo are part of two different groups, making it hard to know who they will pick.

The countries in North Africa share many things, like their religion. The middle part of Africa has seven countries that will be very important in the vote. Everyone wants these countries to vote for them. The new leader will need support from many different parts of Africa to win.
