Rwanda President Paul Kagame met with visitors Tuesday after staying away from public events for more than two weeks. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo visited Kagame at Urugwiro Village. The meeting ended rumors about Kagame's health that had spread across social media. People worried when the president stopped appearing at official ceremonies since June 6. Many citizens began asking questions about his condition. Obasanjo works as a peace mediator for conflicts affecting eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The two leaders talked about security problems across the Great Lakes area. They also discussed other important matters affecting Africa and the world. A presidency statement said both men shared ideas about creating stability and cooperation. Photos showed them sitting together during their conversation. False information about Kagame made people more concerned on Monday. Someone created a fake document that looked like it came from Rwanda Defence Force. The paper claimed the 67-year-old president was very sick and needed emergency medical treatment. Military officials quickly said they never wrote such a document. They called it completely made up and promised to find who created the lie. Kagame has led Rwanda since 2000 and plays an important role helping solve regional disputes. His meeting with Obasanjo shows Rwanda still participates actively promoting peace across neighboring countries. Government officials confirm Kagame continues running all state business normally. The presidency warned citizens to watch out for fake news campaigns designed to cause confusion.
