President Museveni celebrated his wife Janet Kataaha Museveni during her 77th birthday party at Migyera UWESO Secondary School. The event took place Sunday in Nakasongola District with hundreds of guests attending the special occasion. Government officials and church leaders joined family members for the thanksgiving celebration. The Uganda Youth Forum organized the festivities that featured worship services and speeches. Pastor Laban Jjumba delivered the main sermon during the religious ceremony. Museveni praised Janet for her strength during Uganda's liberation war from 1981 to 1986. She raised their children alone as a single parent when he fought against the government. The president admitted missing important family moments because of his military duties away from home. He remembered seeing daughter Diana only twice during her first seven years of life. Janet later founded Uganda Women's Effort to Save Orphans to help war victims across the country. The first lady entered politics despite her husband's initial resistance to the idea. She told Museveni that God had called her to serve the people of Ruhaama constituency. Community elders eventually convinced the president to support her political ambitions. Janet served as Minister for Karamoja before taking charge of the Education and Sports Ministry. Museveni credited her leadership with improving Uganda's athletic achievements and reducing corruption. Janet announced a new war against corruption during her birthday speech. She compared dishonesty to AIDS and called it a national disease requiring immediate action. The first lady urged young people to embrace integrity and reject corrupt practices. Christian lawyers received encouragement to fight corruption without fear of intimidation.
