Zimbabwean Prosecutor Charged with Extortion.
Guruve, Zimbabwe - Yolanda Alufasi, a 32-year-old public prosecutor at Guruve Magistrates' Court, has been charged with extortion. She appeared before the same court where she works.
The court released Alufasi on US$150 bail. She must surrender her passport, live at her given address, and report to the police weekly.
Prosecutors allege that between January 19 and 27, 2025, Alufasi demanded US$200 from Chiedza Mutunami. Alufasi claimed she could speed up the release of Innocent Mutunami's case file from the police and help with his bail application.
Innocent Mutunami is Chiedza's brother. He is in jail awaiting trial on charges of stealing a motor vehicle.
The case against Alufasi is ongoing.
