PS5 Pro AI Upscaler Gets Epic 8K Overhaul

Sony plans to have better AI upscaling for PlayStation 5 Pro soon. A YouTube video from Moore's Law is Dead claims Sony trains a faster neural network that needs less processing time. This new system will create sharper images from lower starting resolutions than the current 864p minimum. The company wants games to run at 4K with 120 frames per second or even 8K at 60 frames per second.

Some games already reach 4K at 120 FPS with current PSSR, but others struggle above 70-80 FPS. The quality jump should match the improvement between AMD FSR 2.0 and 3.1 versions. New options will support 1440p and 1080p resolutions at steady 120 FPS, unlike the current PSSR, which only outputs 4 K. Games not using PSSR will also look better through MFSR, an alternative to TAA upscaling.

Current PS5 Pro upscaling results vary across games. Sony likely develops this tech for future PlayStation 6 consoles as well. Players hope these promised improvements arrive quickly.
