Tinashe Pswarayi and his buddy Tauya Masunda faced a Harare judge last week because they took rental money from a dead guy's properties. The cash belonged to Dr. Edward Pswarayi, who died years back. We're talking big bucks here - over fifty-two thousand US dollars disappeared from the family business. These two guys appeared before Magistrate Sharon Rakafa-Matsika but didn't have to say if they did it or not yet. The court locked them up until today, when they'll find out if they can post bail. Everything started when Takunda Pswarayi, who lives far away in England, told police his brother and friend were stealing money. Takunda deserved some of that cash as part of his dad's inheritance. Tinashe has no job but acts as a trustee for his dad's stuff. Masunda runs City Accounting and helps manage two trusts called Tondori 1 and Tondori 2. Back in 2009, Dr. Pswarayi put different buildings under these trust names. The first trust had a gas station and store building in Machipisa. The second trust owned houses in Borrowdale Brooke, a market in Kambuzuma, another house, plus most of a farm near Beatrice. After the doctor died on June 8, 2014, these guys started collecting rent money right away. In June alone, they grabbed almost ten thousand dollars. They never gave any cash to the official estate person or told the High Court about this money like the law says. Between August and November that year, they collected another forty-two thousand four hundred dollars in rent payments. They broke rules by keeping all this money instead of sharing it with family members. Takunda should have received ten percent but never saw a penny. Only in December 2014, when lawyer Caleb Mucheche became the official estate handler, did anyone discover what happened. The total missing money adds up to fifty-two thousand two hundred thirty-five dollars, and nobody has found any of it yet.
