Many top government officials applied for the Principal Secretary job. The Public Service Commission posted the job. 2,517 people sent in applications. But only 109 made the shortlist. 109 will soon have interviews with the commission. After that, President William Ruto will receive a final list. He will choose who gets the job. Some big names applied. There were former Chief Administrative Secretaries like Nelson Marwa and Andrew Tuimur. Matilda Sakwa used to lead the National Youth Service. Charles Sunkuli and Julius Jwan were Principal Secretaries before. Other applicants work in high posts now. Joseph Boinett is the Deputy National Security Advisor. Eric Kiraithe was the police spokesman. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria runs the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. Simon Rotich led the Public Service Commission. The shortlist also includes some familiar faces. Wilson Sossion was a nominated Member of Parliament. Oluga Ouma headed the doctors' union. Anne Kananu was the governor of Nairobi for a time. David Michael Osiany served as Chief Administrative Secretary. Gabriel Oguda is known for his social media posts. Patrick Amoth directs the Ministry of Health. Nicholas Muraguri, Nixon Sigey, Kipkirui Langat, Pauline Sheghu, Andrew Mulwa, Joseph Limo, and Patrick Musili also made the cut. The commission wants the public to share any important information about the candidates. Until January 24, 2025, people can submit this information. The commission's chairperson, Anthony Muchiri, said the jobs opened up because of changes in the executive branch. The new Principal Secretaries will be in charge of their departments, manage money and staff, and ensure their teams meet goals. It is a very important job in the government. That is why so many top officials applied. The commission will have a hard time choosing the best people for the role.
