Kenya wanted their leader, Raila Odinga, to become the head of a big African group called the African Union. Many people thought he would win, but he lost to someone from a small country called Djibouti. The winner was named Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. Odinga stayed happy even after he lost. He thanked Kenya's President Ruto for helping him try to win. At first, Odinga was winning in the early votes. But later, more people started voting for Youssouf instead. They had to vote seven times before Youssouf won. Some people say Kenya made mistakes that made other African countries unhappy. Kenya helped some fighters in Sudan, which made Sudan angry. Kenya also made Ethiopia upset because of some choices they made. These countries decided to vote against Odinga because they were not happy with Kenya. Youssouf won because many countries liked him better. He had worked as a minister for twenty years and made lots of friends with other African leaders. Muslim countries supported him because he came from a Muslim country. Countries like Egypt, Tunisia, and Senegal voted for him. Odinga did have some friends who helped him. Countries near Kenya, like Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan, wanted him to win. But it wasn't enough to make him the winner. This was important because Kenya wanted to be a stronger leader in Africa. The country will need to make new friends and fix problems with other African countries. Youssouf will become the new leader of the African Union, and he will help solve big problems in Africa. He takes over from someone called Moussa Faki Mahamat, who used to have the job.
