Raila tours Wajir to gauge support for his next move

Raila Odinga landed in Wajir yesterday, continuing his talks with regular people about what comes next for him politically. After failing to win the top African Union job, he needs fresh direction. The former Prime Minister travels from town to town, meeting loyal party members who've supported him for years. He listens carefully to their advice before making any big decisions.

His listening tour already covered Luo Nyanza communities, several Western Kenya locations, and multiple coastal regions where supporters shared their thoughts freely. Insiders mention he struggles between two paths - either leading opposition efforts against the government or joining President Ruto's team before the next presidential race. Political commentators point out that Raila faces limited choices at this stage of his career due to his advancing age and previous attempts at national leadership.

When his plane touched down in Wajir, local leader Governor Ahmed Abdullahi stood ready to greet him. Abdullahi runs Wajir County and currently chairs the entire Council of Governors across Kenya. He shared a message online about welcoming Raila for community discussions. The high-profile delegation included Junet Mohamed, who leads the minority party in Parliament and represents Suna East.

Sources close to Raila hint he might reveal something important very soon, possibly finalizing talks with President Ruto. Speaking to crowds in Kwale earlier this week, Raila asked everyone for patience as he finishes gathering input nationwide. The whole consultation process began on February 24 during remarks he made to supporters in Mombasa. That speech followed directly after meeting with President Ruto upon returning from a short break in Dubai following his disappointment in Addis Ababa. During that address, Raila emphasized his commitment first to Kenya and promised clear announcements once he completed all necessary discussions.
