Reddit made it much easier for people to share multiple pictures back in July 2020 when they rolled out their image gallery feature. Users can now bundle up to 20 photos or moving images into one post that works like a slideshow. The gallery displays each image in order and lets viewers swipe through them on mobile devices or click through them on computers. People use these galleries to show different views of objects, create step-by-step guides, or simply group related pictures together. Each photo can have its own caption and web link that shows up underneath the image. The process for creating these multi-image posts is straightforward on Reddit's main platform. Someone starts by visiting the community where they want to share their content and clicks the create post button. They choose the Images and Video option from the menu that appears. The system allows them to pick up to 20 pictures or animated files and arrange them however they want. Users add a title for their entire post and can write short descriptions for individual images if they choose. Most Reddit communities allow these gallery posts automatically, but community moderators can turn off the feature if they want. When a subreddit has disabled gallery posts, Reddit shows a message explaining that multiple images cannot be posted there. Users who run into this limitation can either find a different community that allows galleries or post just one image instead. Some people work around this restriction by creating albums on image hosting sites like Imgur and sharing those as regular link posts. The gallery feature works on most ways people access Reddit, but there are some exceptions. People using the old version of Reddit or browsing on mobile web browsers cannot create these multi-image posts. However, they can still view galleries that other users have created. The newer Reddit app and the main desktop website both support creating and viewing these image collections without any problems. Reddit limits each gallery post to exactly 20 images or animated files, and users cannot mix regular videos with their photos. People who want to add video content need to convert their clips into animated image files first. Each individual image caption can be up to 180 characters long, giving users space to add context or descriptions for their photos. The feature has become popular for showing before and after comparisons, travel photo series, and product demonstrations across many different communities on the platform.
