Rights Group Slams Salagi Demolitions as Unjust and Illegal

The Edward Francis Small Centre for Rights and Justice blasted government officials for destroying homes in the Salagi area and calling out the Department of Physical Planning for kicking people out of their properties. The center saw how families lost everything during the demolitions on March 28 and April 3.

Land problems run deep with corruption touching everyone from local leaders to estate agents. Government workers have played favorites for years. They protect rich and powerful people instead of helping regular citizens. The Ministry warned people about shady real estate agents but kept making messy land decisions.

Officials claim they want to clear land for public services like police stations and markets. But the center points out these promised facilities never actually get built. Land stays empty for years while hardworking people lose their homes. The government keeps moving the goalposts about who can live where.

Specific examples show how unfair the system works. Powerful people get land grants even when they already own property. Forest areas get carved up for fancy conference centers and private businesses. Some government ministers break laws about land allocation without consequences.

The rights center demands immediate action. It wants demolished homes rebuilt and full compensation for victims. Its recommendations include stopping all future demolitions and creating fair land management rules. The center also wants transparency about how land is distributed. It believes citizens deserve protection from arbitrary government actions.
