Three students died when a boat sank on Thursday on the Colovane river near Dondo. Two more students remain missing after the accident. All came from the Institute of Marine Sciences and Fisheries. These young people took part in hands-on learning when their small craft went under the water. Only one person made it back to shore safely from the boat that carried six people total. Fire Brigade speaker Fernando Faria told reporters about the terrible event. He blamed the unsafe boat for what happened. The students rode in a handmade canoe that gave them no protection at all. Faria said the boat simply could not keep them safe on the water. Search teams have not stopped looking for the last two bodies since the accident happened. Everyone hopes they find the missing students very soon. Officials rushed to help right after hearing about the boat going down. Rescue workers tried their best to find everyone quickly. The river flows through central Mozambique in the Sofala province, where many fishing communities live. Local schools often take students there to practice what they learn in class. Sadly, this teaching trip ended with horrible results for these marine science students. The small boat proved much less safe than anyone expected. It turned deadly when something went wrong on open water. The makeshift canoe held together enough for everyday use but failed during class time. Students need much better boats for water safety during school trips. No one should travel on rivers without proper floats and strong boats built for many people. Search teams keep working hard along the riverbanks and water. They hope to bring closure to families waiting for news about their loved ones. The school faces hard questions about safety rules after losing three young lives. The community felt great sadness from this awful accident. Better safety checks might have stopped these deaths from happening at all.
