Roland's JUPITER-08 can reach 32 voices, while its new Boutique sibling, n/vision, takes a different route with wavetable sounds. Both hardware synths cost $549.99 each, and the pair is up for sale. The JUPITER-08 pays tribute to the classic JUPITER-8 on its 45th anniversary. Its stock mode keeps the vintage synth's eight-part layout with two voices. Roland has also changed how notes get assigned and how pitch responds, with the aim of making it play more like the old gear. For beats and note patterns, players get a poly sequencer with 64 steps and two parts, along with an arpeggiator. There are 17 effects, including chorus and other sound treatments. Delay has a separate section, while the reverb offers five types and a shimmer option. Meanwhile, n/vision lets players mix two wavetable layers for pads, leads, and more detailed tones. Modulation can change wave position, pitch, layer balance, and other sound settings. Roland's wave shaper adds extra harmonics through nonlinear processing, which gives users another way to alter the tone. Sound design goes quite deep here. Step LFOs, envelopes, oscillator modulation, and motion capture can all change how a patch plays. A driven analog-style filter handles part of the tone shaping, while other filter types take cues from older synths. Its effects match those in the JUPITER-08. Both units have speakers and can run on batteries, which is handy for playing away from a studio. USB-C handles digital audio and MIDI, and each model works with the K-25m keyboard dock.
