Rice farmers across the North Bank Region are celebrating after getting massive help from the ROOTS Project. The ROOTS Project handed out supplies to plow 70 hectares of farmland during their latest round. Farmers received 3,500 kilograms of rice seeds plus 420 bags of fertilizer for their fields. Workers also distributed 210 liters of herbicides to kill weeds that damage crops. Last year the community got help plowing 45 hectares and received 270 bags of fertilizer. Farmers also picked up 2,250 kilograms of rice seeds and 135 liters of herbicide.

Foday Gassama from Saaba village calls the partnership a dream come true for local growers. He says the project helps farmers achieve food security and keeps enough seeds for next season. Community members paid back all their loans with a perfect 100 percent repayment rate. The project expanded support again by helping plow 60 hectares and providing 3,000 kilograms of seeds. Farmers also got 420 bags of fertilizer and 210 liters of herbicide for the growing season.
