Royal AM expelled from SA PSL

South African soccer teams kicked Royal AM out of the Premier Soccer League for good. The harsh decision came Thursday when 31 clubs agreed with league officials that Royal AM should lose its membership immediately. The KwaZulu-Natal team ran into serious money problems after tax authorities claimed they owed R40 million. These tax troubles were linked directly to club president Shauwn Mkhize and her family trust, forcing financial managers to take control of the organization.

Because of the immediate expulsion, officials erased all eleven matches Royal AM played this season from the record books. The team last stepped onto a field on December 29 against TS Galaxy. They lost that final game 3-1 at Harry Gwala Stadium located in Pietermaritzburg. The removal leaves a gap in the Betway Premiership competition moving forward. Other teams must adjust their schedules because Royal AM cannot complete their fixtures for the remainder of the season.
