President William Ruto shuffled top government jobs across major state agencies last week. The leader picked John Munyu to run the Pharmacy and Poisons Board for three years starting July 4. Munyu used to head KEMSA, the agency that buys and delivers medicine to public hospitals around Kenya. His appointment kicks out Charles Githinji from that same position. Ruto moved Githinji to lead Kenya Biovax Institute Limited instead. The vaccine company plays a major role making shots locally after COVID-19 taught Kenya hard lessons about depending on foreign suppliers. Githinji replaces Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra who lost his job at the institute. Treasury Secretary John Mbadi fired Susan Mambo from the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board. This board handles complaints about government buying and spending. Hussein Dado landed the top spot at the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board for three years. Education changes saw Henry Anyona join the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation board after Consolata Rop got the boot. Trade Minister Lee Kinyanjui gave Rop a new job at the National Standards Council that watches over quality rules. The same ministry created a massive new committee with over 50 groups to handle trade barriers. Universities, government departments, and regulators all joined this team that reports to the trade ministry.
