President William Ruto has dismissed two prominent figures from their positions at state agencies, marking his latest effort to reshape parastatal leadership.

Through a Gazette Notice, Ruto ended Joe Owaka Ager's tenure as Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya. The notice stated the change would take effect from January 31, 2025.

Owaka, who maintains close ties with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, had served in several high-ranking positions. These included Chair of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service from 2018 to 2021 under former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He also led the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company as General Manager from 2010 to 2015, followed by a role as Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation until December 2023.

Before this recent removal, President Ruto had appointed Owaka as Secretary of Governance and named him among his advisors.

In a separate decision, the President terminated Kiema Mwandia's position on the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board. Mwandia, a strong supporter of the United Democratic Alliance party, had been instrumental in the party's campaign efforts during the 2022 elections.

The President has not announced replacements for either position. According to the official notices, both dismissals became effective January 31, 2025.
