President Ruto explained why he fired Justin Muturi from his Cabinet job at a Sagana State Lodge press meeting on Monday. Muturi had trouble handling his duties as Attorney General. Muturi had actually warned Ruto about this possibility because he hadn't worked as a lawyer in years after his careers as a magistrate, MP, and speaker. "He admitted he might feel swamped. I made a mistake because I talked him into taking the job anyway, but later I saw he really struggled," Ruto said. "That's why I switched his position and made him a Cabinet secretary instead," Ruto mentioned that Muturi then started skipping Cabinet meetings. "You work as a minister but refuse to attend meetings? What should I have done?" Ruto asked. Ruto described himself as someone who believes people deserve another shot. He said most folks perform better when given that opportunity. "Even though Muturi found it hard to succeed as Attorney General, we were friends who worked and campaigned together, so I wanted to give him another chance," Ruto said. "I offered my buddy Muturi a fresh opportunity, but he basically fired himself. What did he expect me to do?" Ruto added. "He'll be okay financially since he receives an excellent pension from his time as speaker." Ruto clearly felt he had tried to help his friend but couldn't keep someone who wasn't meeting his job responsibilities.
