Ryzen 7 9800X3D fuels AMD CPU share gain

The new AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D has taken the computer world by storm. PC builders have made it their top pick, helping AMD gain big ground against its rivals. CPU-Z data shows AMD jumped up 16.6% in market share as Intel fell back 10%. This marks a huge shift—AMD stands close to passing Intel for the first time ever. The 9800X3D leads sales charts everywhere with its impressive 4.3% share of all CPUs tracked.

Eight-core processors rule the roost these days, making up nearly a quarter of all systems checked by CPU-Z users. They grew a massive 32.6% compared to last year, pushing ahead of six-core chips, which hold 22.5% of the market. Four-core processors follow at 19.4%, with dual-cores trailing at 9.6%. These numbers come from real users who test their systems, giving us a clear picture of what people actually buy and use.

The AM5 socket keeps growing fast despite not being the most common yet. It shot up almost 145% from last year, reaching 15.1% of all systems. The older AM4 socket still leads at 20.1% but has lost 11% of its share as people upgrade. Most buyers pick cheaper B650 motherboards instead of fancy X870 boards since they work just fine with all the latest AMD chips. People want good value rather than paying extra for features they might never use.

Graphics card trends show similar changes. NVIDIA lost 6.4% market share even though it still holds the top spot overall. AMD keeps climbing steadily, gaining 16.6% as more gamers pick their cards. This pattern started back in 2021 and continues strong today. The Ryzen 5 5600X remains popular as the second most common CPU, with 2.1% of users still running this older chip in their systems.

CPU-Z might not track every single processor sold worldwide, but it gives us better insight than just looking at one store like Amazon. Earlier reports showed AMD taking 80% of US Amazon sales in March, but that tells only part of the story. The global data paints a clearer picture of how AMD keeps winning customers with their powerful yet affordable chips. Their strategy of offering great performance at competitive prices clearly works with computer enthusiasts and everyday buyers alike.
