Sabah PKR leaders finished changing their state team before upcoming elections. The party brought back Christina Liew as advisor after removing her from power two years ago. Mustapha Sakmud became the new state chairman after winning party elections last May. Peto Galim took the deputy chairman position and will run election campaigns. The changes happened during a Saturday leadership meeting. Liew ran the state party for almost ten years before other leaders forced her out. Sangkar Rasam led the revolt against her but lost his position the next year. Mustapha stepped in as temporary leader before winning the job permanently. Sangkar returned as one of three vice chairmen despite past conflicts. His wife became Women's Chief and his son got the communications director job. The party prepares for state elections that could happen before this year ends. Sabah PKR talks with Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah about sharing seats. Leaders already started working in important voting areas across the state. They want to hear what voters really need from government. The party calls these efforts listening sessions rather than simple surveys. Students held protests last weekend against corruption problems. The rally ended when protesters burned a picture of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Sabah PKR leaders said the burning went too far and hurt their cause. They support student rights to speak about water shortages and government waste. The party believes burning the leader's image crossed proper protest lines.
