Sad day as Yasin Teach Osman passes at 75

Football fans mourn Yasin Teach Osman, who died Monday at 75 years old in Blantyre. The football legend passed away at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after battling a short illness. Tributes poured in from across Malawi when Wanderers announced his death. He served twice as Football Association of Malawi General Secretary between 1996-1999 and 2005-2007. His career included coaching several clubs such as Michiru Blue Cross, Wanderers, Moneymen, and Escom.

Osman made history as the first Malawian footballer bought for £100 in 1970 when he left Wanderers for Bata Bullets. This transfer sparked the famous rivalry between these two teams that continues today. During his playing career, he represented both major Blantyre clubs. Osman helped the national team win the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup in 1978. After retiring as a player, he became head coach of the Flames. He worked as the Wanderers' Technical Director until his death.

His body lies at his home in Thyolo, Bvumbwe, for vigil services. The funeral procession will travel to Balaka on Tuesday for burial. Fans remember him for his exceptional skills, leadership, integrity, and dedication to football as a player, coach, and administrator. Both rival clubs praised his contributions to Malawian football. His accurate memories of football history showed his deep connection to the sport.
