President Mnangagwa urged the people of the Southern African Development Community to stay united for everyone's benefit today and tomorrow. He wants to build a modern, industrial, connected region through teamwork. SADC celebrated Southern Africa Liberation Day yesterday, March 23. The President, who currently leads SADC, asked all citizens to protect what their freedom fighters achieved. He said everyone must guard their shared independence and land. He believes the better SADC everyone dreams about will happen only when people work hard together with honest effort. "None but us SADC citizens will build and change our region," he stated. The President noted that although most areas remain peaceful, the Eastern Congo needs quick action. The troubles in Congo hurt the dreams passed down from earlier leaders and blocked the goals written in SADC plans. Mnangagwa called for ending the fighting, cooling tensions, and starting talks for lasting peace in Congo immediately. He warned everyone to watch out for new dangers that might threaten their hard-won freedom. He pointed specifically to the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, which Morocco still influences today. "We must support each other against illegal sanctions or any actions that attack our freedom and land rights," he explained. He added that Africa cannot be truly free until Western Sahara gains independence. Speaking about weather problems, President Mnangagwa said everyone shares responsibility for fighting the effects of these natural disasters. Many SADC areas face climate change damage—floods have killed thousands and ruined crops and buildings across the region. The last growing season left many parts of SADC without enough food after El Nino brought very little rain. The President emphasized that all countries must work together to handle these climate challenges and protect their communities from future harm.
