Breaking the Walls of Silence sent a message Thursday about Nujoma. They said he caused both good and bad feelings across Namibia.

Oiva Angula from the group said Nujoma changed the country in many ways. As the first president after freedom, many see him as important to the nation. He helped Namibia become free.

But Angula pointed out bad things happened under his watch. Nujoma had chances to fix the Lubango problem but did not act. Many freedom fighters suffered, were kept without trial, or died in camps in Zambia and Angola.

After Namibia became free, the group tried many times to talk with Nujoma. They wanted answers about what happened. They hoped to clear the names of those called spies.

Even though Swapo talks about making peace with old enemies, the group never got to meet with Nujoma. They never had a chance to work toward healing like Desmond Tutu taught.

Nujoma has died, but the pain lives on for many who survived the camps. Following African values, the group does not celebrate his death.

The group plans to keep talking with Swapo leaders and the government. They want justice for Lubango victims who died or are still missing and those who lived through it.
