Lagos State wants more Nigerians to learn how to invest, with a plan to reach 10 million people through financial education. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has backed a push by the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) to help the public learn about stocks, savings, and ways to build wealth. During a visit to Lagos House in Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu told CIS leaders that Nigeria's stock market had grown, yet many people still lacked the skills to take part. He said more public education could help people make better choices with their cash. And the governor wants Lagos to play a part in that effort. He offered state backing for programs that teach people about finance and help train skilled market experts. His pledge also covers a CIS plan to raise a N5 billion fund for training and career growth in the sector. Dr Fiona Ahimie, the first female president of CIS, is leading the institute's latest push. Her rise to the top drew praise from Sanwo-Olu, who urged her team to keep up its work on skills, ethics, and public outreach. Ahimie shared details of a joint plan with the Office of the Vice President. The aim is to teach 10 million Nigerians how the stock market works and how they can take part. Young people are a key focus, as the group seeks to help them learn more about where and how to invest. The CIS team also brought along its top leaders. First Vice President Dr Akeem Oyewale and Second Vice President Jude Chiemeka joined the visit, along with Registrar and Chief Executive Ayorinde Adeonipekun, past CIS heads, and current council members. Another item on the agenda was the institute's 30th Annual Conference in Lagos. The event will look at ways to raise funds for growth, build a stronger economy, and help Nigeria compete in world markets. Ahimie sees closer ties between state leaders and finance experts as a way to reach more people. The plan places a strong focus on teaching basic money skills while training more people for careers in the capital market.
