Shocking Rise in Zimbabwe Divorces Leaves Families Torn

More People Want To Stop Being Married In Zimbabwe.

Many families in Zimbabwe are breaking up. Last year, 2,149 people wanted to end their marriages. This year, the number went up to 3,214 people. The courts have helped 1,562 people finish their divorces.

Most people want to stop being married in Harare, the big city. There, 1,945 people asked the court to help them. In another city called Bulawayo, 825 people wanted to end their marriages. Other places like Masvingo, Mutare, and Chinhoyi had fewer people asking for help.

Bishop Rocky Moyo leads many churches in Africa. He is sad about these numbers because they mean many families are hurting. He says people fight about money, love, and trust. Some people cheat on their husbands or wives. Other people stop talking to each other when they feel angry.

Dr. Moyo thinks praying together strengthens marriages. He wants couples to work hard at being nice to each other. He believes families need help from their friends and neighbors. He wants people to talk about their feelings before they decide to stop being married.

Ms. Sethulo Ncube helps women who need lawyers. She says many people want divorce because their husbands or wives hurt them. Some people fight about money. These fights make children feel very sad because they love both their mom and dad.
