Solomon Owusu from the Movement for Change attacked Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo for her public comments. The politician said she broke Article 146 of the Constitution during her press conference. He claimed the suspended judge violated rules about secret hearings. Owusu appeared on TV3's New Day program Wednesday to make his accusations. He wants officials to charge her with contempt for speaking about her removal case. The critic mocked Torkornoo for complaining about her husband being banned from the hearing room. Owusu questioned whether she needs her spouse present to do her job properly. He asked if the husband helps her write court rulings. The politician called her actions completely lawless. He suggested she could face another removal petition for breaking constitutional rules. Torkornoo has taken her fight to the ECOWAS Community Court located in Abuja, Nigeria. She filed a lawsuit against Ghana over the removal proceedings. The Chief Justice claims officials violated her human rights during committee hearings. She previously told Ghanaian courts that investigators treat her worse than treason suspects. The judge called the entire process degrading and unconstitutional. President John Mahama suspended Torkornoo on April 22 after receiving three separate petitions. He formed a special committee to examine the allegations against her. The Chief Justice maintains that nobody told her about the specific charges. She argues that officials ignored her basic legal rights. Torkornoo insists she never learned how investigators built their case against her.
