Williams attacked spinner Keshav Maharaj with aggressive sweeps and charges down the pitch. His tactics disrupted the bowler's rhythm and helped Zimbabwe avoid the follow-on. The innings collapsed quickly after Maharaj stumped Williams. Kyle Verreynne completed his fifth dismissal behind the stumps.

South Africa lost Matthew Breetzke early in their second innings but recovered well. Mulder remained unbeaten on 25 runs with Tony de Zorzi on 22. The visitors finished day two at 49 runs for one wicket. Two more days remain in this Test match.
