Young people from around the world came together at a special meeting in Pretoria. South Africa held this Youth20 summit at the Innovation Hub on June 18. The delegates worked on creating important policy ideas for world leaders. They spent time writing the first version of their official statement. These recommendations will go to top government officials at the next big meeting. Ambassador Xolisa Mabhongo joined the youth summit and spoke about their important work. He said the Youth20 group has been around since 2010 and remains the oldest part of the G20 system. The ambassador wants young people to create real change across all parts of society. He believes they can make a difference in communities, religious groups, government offices and news organizations. Their voice matters for shaping future policies. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma gave the main speech at the event. She used to lead the African Union and currently serves as a government minister. The doctor told African youth that education and learning new skills work as the fastest way to level the playing field. She talked about fighting inequality and helping women gain more power. Her speech covered making better use of Africa's minerals and protecting ocean resources. Other major G20 groups sent messages of support to the young delegates. Business leaders, women's organizations and community groups all backed their efforts. Everyone wants to work together on global problems. The different groups believe young people should lead the way toward better cooperation between countries.
