Stanbic Bank earned top honors from Uganda's National Environment Management Authority for outstanding green practices. The financial institution received the sustainability award during a ceremony at Sheraton Hotel Kampala. Catherine Adengo and Diana Ondoga collected the prize on behalf of their company. The event focused on promoting cleaner production methods across Uganda. NEMA created these awards to recognize businesses that protect the environment. The bank gave out 62 billion shillings during 2024 to support environmentally friendly projects. These funds helped clean energy companies, sustainable farms, and green technology businesses grow. Adengo stated that environmental care forms a central part of their business strategy. She explained that green finance helps Uganda develop better economic solutions. The money also supports women, young people, and farmers with affordable loans. Stanbic Bank works with Coca-Cola to recycle plastic waste from their operations. Their partnership with Plastics Recycling Industries has processed over 9,000 kilograms of materials. The program has achieved a 97.86 percent recycling rate for plastic garbage. Ondoga described how digital banking reduces paper consumption at branches. Customers can use mobile apps and online services instead of visiting offices. Dr. Barirega Akankwasa from NEMA praised companies that follow environmental rules. He announced new support services to help developers meet green standards. The authority believes good environmental practices encourage other organizations to adopt similar programs. These annual awards celebrate excellence across multiple sectors throughout the country. NEMA hopes recognition motivates continued improvement and expansion of sustainability efforts.
