Businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, a close friend of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, just received backing from Zanu PF's Harare provincial coordinating committee to become part of the ruling party's Central Committee. This powerful group makes key decisions between party congresses. Secretary General Obert Mpofu must still approve this move before it becomes official. The appointment would mark a big step up for Tagwirei in Zimbabwe politics. Harare provincial chairperson Godwills Masimirembwa spoke highly of Tagwirei during a Monday meeting. He called him a business mastermind with great vision. "The provincial coordinating committee fully backs adding him to the Central Committee," Masimirembwa explained. They plan to send their official recommendation straight to Secretary General Mpofu as the agreed position from Harare Province leaders. Critics say Tagwirei has made millions through his friendship with Mnangagwa. He landed a huge contract to build the Mbudzi Interchange flyover. His business reach keeps growing into mining areas. He already controls much of the fuel market across Zimbabwe. Tagwirei also runs the Command Agriculture program and heads the Land Tenure Implementation Committee. Masimirembwa pointed out that Tagwirei has always backed Zanu PF financially. "This gives him the chance to work directly inside the party leadership to push economic empowerment," he added. Not everyone welcomes this news, however. War veteran Blessed Geza has publicly attacked Tagwirei, calling him an oligarch who holds unfair economic power.
