Waness Kumwenda, a 27-year-old tailor from Mpherembe Trading Centre, calls on young people to learn job skills for better self-support. Running her successful tailoring and design shop, Kumwenda thanks the training program backed by the Adventist Relief Agency under their Green Jobs for Adolescents and Youth project. The program helps young folks gain skills that boost their job chances and business know-how. Save the Children funds this effort, which ADRA runs with TEVET and other groups. Kumwenda told Malawi24 how grateful she feels for the help she received to start her business. The support allowed her to register her tailoring shop and provide for her family. According to ADRA Project Coordinator Beatrice Banda, many youth trained through this program have found financial success. She promised that ADRA will continue helping young people build their futures through similar programs. Yamikani Nyalugwe, the Mzimba District Youth Officer, praised ADRA Malawi for changing how young people think about work. More youth visit the office asking about skill-learning opportunities than before. Many have started small businesses, showing real progress that pleases government officials. The program truly changes lives by giving practical skills rather than just promises. Chimwemwe Sichinga from the M'mbelwa District Council trade office sees the same trend. Her office gets many requests from young business starters looking for setup help and registration guidance. The trade office works to support these new shops and help makers add value to their products. Most young entrepreneurs who come through their doors run their businesses very well. The project serves several areas across Mzimba District, including Edingeni, Engalaweni, Mbalachanda, Euthini, Mpherembe, Enukweni, and Enguwcin. Young people like Kumwenda starting businesses shows how the program fights youth joblessness. By teaching hands-on skills instead of theory alone, ADRA helps create lasting change for Malawi communities.
