Police Take Protesters in Kenya's Capital. On Monday, there was trouble in Nairobi, and so were other people who care about human rights. They think the government has been taking people away, and they don't like that. They want it to stop. The protesters went out into the streets. They wanted to tell everyone how they felt. But the police didn't want them to protest. They tried to make them leave. The protesters wouldn't go. The police threw tear gas at the protesters. It made some of them very sick. They had to go to the hospital. The police grabbed Senator Omtatah and the others. They put them in vans and drove away. Senator Omtatah was not happy. He said getting arrested wouldn't stop him. He said he'd keep protesting until the missing people came home. The protesters had tied themselves together with chains. This made it hard for the police to pull them apart. It was a big mess. Earlier, the police had thrown tear gas at the protesters. But they still wouldn't leave. Even some people who were just there to report the news got caught in the middle. A lot of people came out to protest. They were brave. They knew the police would be there, but they came anyway. They sang songs about how angry they were with President William Ruto. One man named Odhiambo Ojiro led the singing. He said they were there to show they're not okay with what the government is doing. The protesters sat in the street for a long time. The police just watched at first. But then they got tired of waiting. They broke up the protest by force. Some protesters got hurt. They had to be taken to the hospital quickly. It was a tough day in Nairobi. People are upset. They want the government to listen. They want their friends and family to come home safe. But the government doesn't seem to want to listen. They sent the police out to stop the protest. They used tear gas and force. This probably won't be the last protest. Senator Omtatah says he'll keep going out there to make sure everyone knows what's happening. It's a sad situation. Kenya is supposed to be a place where people can speak their minds. But right now, many don't feel that way. They feel like they're not being heard. If enough people speak up, maybe things will change. Maybe the government will start to listen. That's what the protesters are hoping for. They just want Kenya to be a place where everyone feels safe and free.
