Tesla shocked car industry experts after beating their worst predictions for summer sales. The electric vehicle company sold 384,122 cars during the second quarter of 2025. Wall Street analysts expected Tesla to sell 385,086 vehicles during the same period. The final numbers came within just 964 cars of expert predictions. Tesla managed to surprise everyone despite making more cars than they actually sold. June became Tesla's strongest month during the entire quarter. The company pushed 47 percent of all quarterly sales through June alone. Most years Tesla only sells between 41 and 44 percent of quarterly totals during the final month. June sales reached a massive 170,000 to 180,000 vehicles. Tesla workers clearly scrambled to move cars before the quarter ended. JPMorgan analysts had slashed their estimates down to just 360,000 vehicles. They originally predicted Tesla would sell 392,000 cars during the quarter. Tesla beat these pessimistic forecasts despite facing serious challenges. The company sold 13 percent fewer cars compared to the same period last year. Elon Musk fired his top operations manager and took personal control of sales. HSBC analyst Michael Tyndall expects Tesla to perform better during the third quarter. The federal tax credit for electric vehicles disappears in September. Tesla hopes to capture more sales before customers lose the $7,500 government discount. The company plans to focus more heavily on energy storage products. Tesla must work harder to offset declining car sales across North America and Europe.
