President Bola Tinubu gave special awards to people who fought for democracy during Democracy Day celebrations. He spoke to lawmakers and honored many heroes who helped Nigeria become a democratic country. The president said these brave people deserved recognition after 26 years of continuous democracy. He wanted to remember those who risked their lives to bring freedom to Nigeria. These awards show how much the country values those who stood up for what was right. Kudirat Abiola received the highest honor after her death. She was the wife of MKO Abiola who many believe won the 1993 presidential election. The president called her a hero of the June 12 struggle. Humphrey Nwosu also got an award for his work as the election official during that time. Many other democracy fighters received recognition for their brave actions. The president honored Ken Saro Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine with special awards after their deaths. These environmental activists died fighting for their people's rights. Tinubu announced he would give them full pardons using his presidential powers. The National Council of State will help decide on other pardons later. These actions aim to heal old wounds and honor forgotten heroes. Journalist Sam Amuka Pemu got an award as he turned 90 years old. Many writers and activists received honors for their work during difficult times. Professor Wole Soyinka and other respected Nigerians joined the list of award winners. The ceremony showed how democracy activists came from many different backgrounds. Their combined efforts helped build the Nigeria people see today.
