Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, known by most people as Toyota, wants Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande to replace Theodore Ssekikubo as Lwemiyaga County's representative in Parliament. Toyota happens to be President Museveni's brother, which adds weight to his political backing. He stood before crowds at a recent rally and declared he would block Ssekikubo from winning another term. The race already looks like it will become intense. Toyota attacked Ssekikubo directly during his speech. "Ssekikuubo has lied for a very long time. The time for his lies is over," he told the audience. He claimed the current representative failed to help the area progress. Toyota dismissed the idea that Ssekikubo cannot be beaten, calling it outdated thinking. He promised complete support for Rwashande until election day comes. Rwashande stepped up with accusations against the sitting lawmaker. He claimed Ssekikubo never delivered anything he promised during previous campaigns. "The only achievement he has made is to sow division among the people of Lwemiyaga," Rwashande stated. He accused Ssekikubo of taking land from residents and entangling many in legal battles. He added that healthcare remains nonexistent in the area. The National Resistance Movement has not yet announced when primary elections will happen before the general vote in 2026. Despite this lack of an official timeline, political tensions already run high in Lwemiyaga County. The last election cycle in 2021 turned bloody with serious violence. Many fear the upcoming contest might follow the same dangerous path as early rivalries heat up across the district.
