Former U.S. President Trump signed new rules on Friday that stop all U.S. help to South Africa. He wants to bring White South African farmers to America as people who need safe homes. Trump said the South African leaders hurt White people's rights. Trump's paper said South Africa takes farms from White owners without paying them. He thinks the nation makes rules that harm White people in jobs, schools, and business. He points to South Africa's court case against Israel and its close ties with Iran as problems. Trump often talks about South Africa. He claims, with no proof, that its leaders take land from White owners and hurt White farmers. The Post wrote about this before. South Africa made a law that lets it take land with no payment in rare cases. The nation's leaders say this helps fix old wrongs from apartheid times. Under that past system, Black South Africans could not own land. The land still shows the marks of apartheid today. White South Africans make up 8 in every 100 people but own three-quarters of farmland. Black South Africans make up 80 in every 100 people but own just 4 in every 100 farms. Trump backed those who opposed these changes. He wrote on Truth Social this week that "South Africa takes land and treats some groups very badly." In 2018, he asked his team to look into what he called many killings of farmers. Facts from crime data and farm groups proved this wrong. South African President Ramaphosa said on X that the law follows their basic rules. Later, in a big speech, he said, "We will not be bullied." The new rules tell U.S. groups to stop all help to South Africa right away. Last year, America gave $440 million, much of it for AIDS care. This change might hurt many health plans. Trump also asked his team to plan how to bring White South Africans here as people who need safe homes. This breaks from his past strict rules about letting such people into America. Elon Musk, who leads Tesla and helps Trump, came from South Africa. He said on X that South African leaders hate White people. He asked Ramaphosa, "Why do you have rules about ownership based on race?" Ramaphosa talked to Musk on the phone about wrong facts about South Africa. His helper, Vincent Magwenya, wrote to Musk about how the rules help fix past wrongs from hard times. South Africa has not said much about Trump's move yet, but Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe said they might use their gold and other metals as power. He said at a mining meeting, "If they do not give us money, we should not give them minerals. We are not just asking for help."
