The timing is pretty wild since Honduras has an election coming up this weekend. Trump's backing the conservative candidate Nasry Asfura and trashing the other two guys running, calling one of them basically a communist. Hernández used to lead the same party as Asfura before getting extradited and convicted by a New York jury.

Meanwhile, the current Honduran leader, Xiomara Castro, has been buddy-buddy with Cuba and Venezuela, which Trump hates. His administration has been doing these military strikes on boats they claim are smuggling drugs, but lawyers are questioning whether that's even legal since there's no proof the vessels actually had narcotics on them.
